Serval Fandango Interview
Tell us a bit about yourself, how did you get into art?
Well my name is Serval Fandango and ‘I bring that eye candy flair’.
I’m a contemporary artist from Onehunga with a multilayered illustration style.
I got into art when I was a kid - my dad would drop a stack of paper in front of me and I’d just draw, everyday all day. It wasn’t till last year when someone said that I could make money off of my art that I decided I should give it a go.
Where did the name Serval Fandango come from?
Serval is my real name and Fandango comes from the lively Spanish dance.
‘My dad would drop a stack of paper in front of me and I’d just draw, everyday all day.’
We know you are pursuing tattooing, what drew you to this medium along with illustration and painting?
It felt like a natural step in my creative journey to explore different art styles and test those waters. As of now sculpture is what I’m excited to show more of.
Tell us a bit about your style and how it has evolved.
My style is based off old rock poster art, mixed with comic book/manga illustration and pop art in a contemporary format.
Does your location and community have an impact on your work?
Greatly so, I feel it reflects and draws from aspects of my character and style.
What’s next for Serval Fandango?
Well well well. Lets just say who knows, because I don’t haha, but it will be interesting to stay keyed on what I do.
